ome to historic landmarks dating from as far back as the Aztec era, Centro Historico is the city's beating heart. Centered around the massive Zócalo plaza, the area draws tourists to museums and iconic buildings like the art nouveau Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Metropolitan Cathedral. Street vendors and basic taquerías exist in harmony with high-end restaurants along the bustling, pedestrian-only Calle Madero

The city is still renowned for its silver, but copper, zinc, lead, and fluorite are also mined in the vicinity. Taxco is primarily known for its fine silver handwork and other crafts, being recognized as the outstanding centre for silverwork in the Western Hemisphere

Framed by the volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihutal, Puebla's setting is breathtaking. And with enough historic buildings to fill a textbook, it's no wonder the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A local guide can help bring the colonial history to life, as well as recommending the best place to eat Mole Poblano, a saucy dish made with chili and chocolate

San Miguel de Allendes

ounded in the 16th century, San Miguel de Allende is known for old world charm and first world amenities. A lively nightlife and abundance of fine restaurants give the mid-sized town a cosmopolitan vibrancy. The center of town is a time capsule of cobblestone streets lined with jewel tone colonial facades and stone colonnades, and overshadowed by La Parroquía, an immense neo-gothic church of pink stone.
