A Mother’s Journey

This was an unexpected event I was lucky to come across, on the beach right in front of our hotel. Why she decided to lay her eggs in the hottest part of the day, in full sight of tourist and her natural predators, I don’t know.


There is lots of conservation efforts going happening now in Nicaragua.  This Turtle is Pacific Green Turtle who deposits her eggs on the beach alone but the Olive Ridley Turtles return to the same beaches in the hundreds.  Tourist swarm the beaches to watch this amazing sight much to the peril of the turtle population here.  I think I am inspired to make a painting of this Turtle from one of my photos.

Dubrovnik, June 10, 2018

I was attracted to this high vantage point because of the challenging perspective; as I painted I learned about Dubrovnik from the perspective of two locals caught in the daily riggers of mass tourism.
