I am lucky to have the opportunity to travel as much as I do and feel very fortunate to be in Croatia at this time, to explore such a beautiful country and discover my heritage. Once my group is on their way, I get the chance to visit the city of Rovijn in the Istria peninsula bordering Italy, and one of the first towns to fall to the Venetian empire in the 11th Century. Attacked several times over the next few centuries Rovinj saw an influx in their population in the 17th century and its charm as a fortified medieval city is very much in tacked today.
Rovinj is charmingly picturesque fishing town with narrow, cobbled streets, a plethora of excellent seafood restaurants and small artisan boutique shops. The town center, originally an Island is crowned by St Euphemia Cathedral, the highest church tower in Istria at 61 metres high. The opportunity to wake up each morning footsteps from a plethora of fantastic subject matter, swim in the heat of the afternoon and enjoy enough light in the early evening to paint until dinner. Some of the best meals anywhere can be enjoyed harbour side while watching the sunset, olive oil, white truffles, seafood and some fantastic wine are part of most evening in relaxing Rovijn.
Here is a little montage of my painting experience in Rovijn
